Maguire calls on enforcement of Smoky Coal Ban in Sligo as poor air quality affecting health

Councillor Sinéad Maguire is calling on Sligo County Council to do more to enforce the Smoky Coal Ban in Sligo.

Cllr. Maguire said “this is an issue which came up on the doorstops while canvassing for the recent Local Elections. People have voiced their concerns to me regarding air quality. In particular, runners and those out getting exercise explained how they would avoid certain areas due to excessive smoke.”

“The effects of smoky coal on the quality of our air is hugely underestimated.  While it may not be in the interest of vested groups for this ban to be enforced, it will certainly improve air quality by reducing harmful particles in the air. The improvement of air quality leads to better quality of life and better health for all in our community.”
