Maguire calls for improvement at N17/R293 junction – Clarke’s bridge

Local election candidate Cllr Sinéad Maguire has called for the necessary improvements to be planned and carried out urgently, to the N17/R293 junction at Clarke’s bridge so that residents from the Ballymote, Gurteen and neighbouring areas can travel into Sligo without the current delay and danger.

Councillor Maguire said, “This junction is dangerous and congested, particularly at peak times, especially for those travelling from the Ballymote and Gurteen direction towards Sligo. Even at less busy times, traffic is often delayed at the intersection, as it attempts to gain access to the busy Sligo-Galway trunk route.  ”

“To complicate matters, the R293, just before it reaches the junction, takes a right angle bend in order to cross the railway.  These works are needed urgently and should not wait for any planned upgrading of the N17. Commuters are being delayed in travelling to Sligo and put at serious risk at this dangerous junction.”
