Launch of the Report of the Committee on Regional and Rural Transport Policy

The Report of the Committee on Regional and Rural Transport Policy was launched in The Hive in Carrick-on-Shannon Wednesday 17th July.

Councillor Maguire says that she has noted and look forward to reviewing this report and hoping that the representations she has made regarding the proposed route from Ballina to Sligo, which now under the auspices of Local Link Donegal, will continue to proceed.

“I have sought the inclusion of the route from Dromore West via the Coast Road and Carrowmore Megalithic Tombs to Sligo. This proposed service would see the provision of a bus service 8 times daily on this route. It would provide a vital link for the local and tourists on this part of our county. I believe that this route would be very successful and would be of added value to the major tourist attraction of the Wild Atlantic Way and the OPW Site at Carrowmore.”

“The provision of rural public transport is key to the survival of rural aging communities and I believe this also ties in well with the government’s proposals regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions in the Climate Change Action Plan and the Climate Adaption Strategy of Sligo County Council 2019 – 2024.”

“The proposed route was outlined to a meeting of the Council on matters of rural interest however, the service provider subsequently changed. I have been lobbying the new provider which covers both Donegal and Sligo to include this service in its plans.”
