Increased funding to combat Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Sligo – Maguire

Frontline services in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan combating domestic, sexual and gender-based violence are to receive funding of €277,550.00  to support their services this year, Cllr. Sinéad Maguire has said. This is an increase of previous year’s funding of €252,550.00 in 2018 and €184,300.00 in 2017.

The scheme is specifically targeted at rural towns and villages with populations of less than 10,000.

Cllr. Maguire said: “It’s essential that we prioritise and tackle sexual violence in our communities and provide strong supports and services for victims.  Those suffering domestic, sexual and gender-based violence must receive the frontline services they need and those who perpetrate such crimes must be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.

“With the increase in funding it will allow shortfalls and gaps in services to be filled.  It is also important to note that the funds are being directly targeted at frontline services.”
